Madelyn Sergel is the heart and hands behind Contemporary Tarot, a cozy corner of the internet where tarot meets clarity, creativity, and lived experience. With more than forty years of tarot practice, she brings the insight of an artist and the grounding presence of a trusted mentor to every lesson she shares.
A lifelong lover of the tactile and tangible, Madelyn blends her theatre roots with the quiet charm of her Wisconsin cabin. Her teaching style is clear, calm, and concise. She helps learners at every level understand tarot’s language through approachable explanations and often overlooked symbols.
Many describe her voice as warm and conversational, like learning from a beloved teacher who makes complex ideas feel accessible. She believes tarot should never be intimidating or gatekept. In its tradition, tarot is a tool for self-discovery and creative insight, not fortune telling.
When she is not teaching, Madelyn also works various creative mediums, visual & graphic art, working with textiles and working three dimensionally on repurposing or reinterpreting vintage metal work. involved in advocates for the disability community . Also a lipaints fabric, restores wood pieces, tends her garden, volunteers with local theatre, or settles in for a classic sci-fi film with her husband, David. He is a retired lawyer who now serves as her on-site tech support. Together, they have raised two wonderful children: Lucas, their gentle and insightful son, and Izzy, their sharp and spirited daughter.
